The Wellith Runith Dryith
Wednesday, June 28, 2006, you never really notice it much till you don't have much of it.
Welcome to our household. I'm living on such a tight budget that my pocket book claims I'm starving it too death.

When I called the Department of Child Support recently to question whether my recent windfall of $184.05 was from a garnishment because Dead Beat had started working, I was told, and I quote, "No, looks like he paid with a cashiers check when he turned in the paperwork to lower his support obligation."

"You mean the support he hasn't paid in ten years, that obligation?"
"Yes, that would be the one."
"So I shouldn't count on anything more."
"No. In fact, just enjoy this one."

Um, excuse me? Enjoy? Oh, ok lady, I'll enjoy this check for $184.05 while using it to buy a second hand dryer because my old second hand one just up and keeled over from old age. I'll then enjoy it using it to fix the broken turn signals on my car, let's not forget to mention how I'll enjoy it when it doesn't cover fixing my brakes or my two back windows, one of which wont go down, the other of which wont go up. I'll also remember to enjoy it when I can't afford to get the tabs for my car for ANOTHER month and when I can't afford to send MY son to sleep away camp like he so desperately wants to go and when I can't afford to pay the doctor bills at the pediatrician or when I can't afford to pay the entire electric bill or even buy MY son that stupid Lego Star Wars Tank he's been dying to have.

Yes, you're right...I'll go right out and enjoy this check.

Deadbeat Dad's... No excuses and no sympathy... >.<

They make men look bad (not that it takes a lot it seems)...

I've been here before! I liked it then and I like it now!

Don't spend it all in one place.

(Sorry. You knew someone was going to say it and now the suspense is over.)

Seriously, though, what a jerk.

Michele sent me. She's awesome.

Hi, Michele sent me. (You're going to be reading that a lot...)

But I'm so glad I clicked on that link. You've got a really engaging site here, and I never would've found it in the ocean which is Michele's blogroll. I've just read your June 2006 archive, and I'm off now to read May 2006.

Man, this sucks. Why isn't this guy in the hoosegow? In Mass. we run "most wanted" poster with the bigger offenders ( and hunt them down like dogs...

Sometimes it's cool living in a liberal-fascist state like Mass...

Kara, here via Michele's today -- congrats on being SOTD :) -- I think those women who had "their" deadbeat dad arrested at his mother's wake had it right -- my dad never paid a penny of his measly $30 per week child support -- instead he just took it from my babysitting money when he broke into our home -- nice guy

Sounds like you are an expert in stretching $184. Instead of allowing him to lower his support, the court should be garnishing his wages for back support. Anyway. Good lick, and Michele sent me.

I'm thinking that woman's attitude is just as insulting as the Dead Beat's lack of support.

Best of luck.

Michele sent me today. Congrats on being Site of the Day.

Disgusting. Both Deadbeat AND the woman that gave you the info. I hope there are other ways of pursuing this matter. Good luck.

Here from Michele's -- congrats on Site of the Day!

Wow. That's awful. And although being Site of the Day won't increase your child support, maybe it will give you a well-deserved ego boost or pat on the back. Congrats on that.

I was in your situation over 40 years ago...and I can see things haven't changed much at all. (shaking my head)
So I wish you and your son all the best...and I sure hope that light at the end of the tunnel appears for you soon.

Oh. My.

I can understand trying to use humour to lighten a situation, but it seems to me the lady you talked to needs a refresher in appropriateness.

Here from Michele's.

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through...I can't understand why a man would abandon his kids like that.

btw, I clicked on your Amazon wish list and I have a few books on it that I'd love to send to you, if you're interested.

And hi, Michele sent me!

That's ridiculous. I'd have been tempted to say, "How about you enjoy my foot up your ass?" Of course, no sense getting mad at that lady -- she's just doing her job. It's the reprobate irresponsible deadbeat who really needs the foot in the ass.

Here from Michele's today, though I stop by most days, and congrats on SOTD!

Blogger InterstellarLass had this to say:

Honey, just because he 'works under the table' doesn't mean you don't have more recourse!

If they can't garnish his wages, they should be filing liens against any property he has, IRS (well, doubt he's filed these either) refunds, reporting his ass to credit agencies, etc. So, if he's working under the table, and he's bought a nice new car, the state can sieze his car, sell it at auction, and you get the proceeds. If he has a cool stereo, yep, the can sieze it and sell it. And, since he owes, he's in contempt of court, and I do believe that is an offense punishable by jail time.

You should contact whoever manages the child support and find out why further action hasn't been taken against this loser. Then you should find a lawyer. Maybe that $184.05 could be used against him. Or find one that works pro-bono.

Deadbeat dads piss the hell out of me. Mine wasn't one, but then he had his parental rights revoked. So, he didn't technically owe anything. His apologies fell on deaf ears.
